A middle-aged man set himself on fire on a bridge girder over a crowded street in central Tokyo on Sunday and was taken to hospital, police and fire department officials said.
The man, wearing a suit, used a megaphone to voice his opposition to the Japanese government’s planned security policy change before pouring what appeared to be gasoline on himself and setting light to it, the officials said.
Fire services extinguished the blaze but the man was seriously injured, they said.
