Message from Prime Minister Shinzo Abe:

This is the moment when the maglev shinkansen—the new “bullet train” rail system using superconducting magnetic levitation technology—ascended from the tracks.

I invited U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy to join me in riding the test line of the Chuo Maglev Shinkansen in Yamanashi Prefecture.

I want to extend this technology, the pride of Japan which integrates the three elements of speed, safety, and comfort, around the world.

The early opening of this line in Japan is really something to look forward to. I will also promote this technology internationally at the very highest levels.
