Carlsberg unveils Malawi sponsorship

Malawi-Carlsberg-300

Carlsberg Malawi Limited unveiled three-year sponsorship worth $600 000 (K250 million) for Malawi senior national team, the Flames at Protea Ryalls Hotel in Blantyre on Thursday night.

Malawi is among the few African countries that have Carlsberg beer manufacturing plants and the company has for 46 years supported school and club football.

Carlsberg Malawi commercial director Allen McInnes said the company was completing a football sponsorship cycle by supporting the Flames who host Chad next week in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

“For the last 46 years, we have supported grassroots football and the sponsorship of the Flames is part of our bid to strengthen the team as Carlsberg is an iconic beer brand in Malawi,” McInnes said in his speech.

Accepting the sponsorship, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu said Carlsberg would inject into the team K50 million this year followed by K100 million in each of the next two years.

Flames captain James Sangala welcomed the sponsorship, saying it would boost the team’s morale going to the first leg game against Chad on May 18 in Blantyre.
