Greek lawmakers have again failed to elect a president during a second round of voting held in Athens this morning.

Stavros Dimas, the only candidate in the race, fell short of the 200 votes needed, with 168 votes in favour, 39 against and one no show.

The ballot will now go to a third round where the majority needed drops to 180.

If Dimas still fails to secure a win, the government will be forced to call a general election within a month, potentially ushering in the left wing Syriza party, which wants to renegotiate the Greek bailout.
