Nearly 80 pct of Tokyo residents are concerned about terror attacks related to the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in the Japanese capital, a recent survey by the Metropolitan Police Department has revealed.
Among their concerns about the Tokyo Games, terror attacks were cited by 78.8 pct of respondents in the survey, followed by trouble involving foreign tourists by 66.4 pct, traffic congestion by 65.1 pct and rising crime by 51.7 pct.
The survey was carried out online in January, covering some 1,000 Tokyo residents aged 18 or older. Of them, about 90 pct gave valid responses.
About 95 pct of the respondents said strengthened security operations by police during the Games will be necessary or understandable.
Meanwhile, some 80 pct said they are more or less looking forward to the quadrennial event in Tokyo.
