After taking Israel to the Hague under genocide charges, South Africa is now preparing a separate lawsuit against the U.S. and U.K. governments on the grounds that they are complicit in Israeli forces’ war crimes in Gaza.

South African lawyer Wikus Van Rensburg who is leading this initiative stated that the U.S. was never held accountable for “the crimes it committed in Iraq.” Nevertheless, he added that with the current attention on Palestine, it is an ideal scenario to commence the legal process against the U.S.’s ongoing arming and funding of Israel.

Rensburg said that the current genocide case against Israel will serve as a “guide” for the new case against the U.K. and U.S. adding that the process would begin based on the outcome of the current trial as well as the subsequent moves taken by the United Nations.
