T. Rex – The Slider 52

By Tony Visconti

52 years ago this great rock album was released. I was the producer, orchestrator, photographer of the cover photos and mixer. Marc and I had a great time putting this out there after the phenomenal success of Electric Warrior. Whilst filming Ringo’s production of the Mad Hatter’s tea party scene, Marc handed me his Nikon F and asked me to shoot two rolls of film, 72 headshots. Weeks later I went to Marc’s flat and noticed the contact prints of my photos. I commented that they looked great and Marc said to initial them in case he used them. Well, he certainly used two of them and here they are. When the cover was created the photo credit went to Ringo. I immediately phoned Marc and firmly reminded him that I took those photos. His immediate reply was, “Whoopsie.” Ringo has never refuted this. Marc was as star struck as any fan to be working with Ringo, but to give him credit for my work was taking it too far. I’m even in Born To Boogie dressed in a tuxedo with tails as the conductor of the string quartet. The album sounds wonderful and has stood the test of time.
