Pop Music from East Germany in the unified Germany

In October 1990, Tokio Hotel’s two frontmen were still small children. The advance of the teen band from provincial eastern Germany to a worldwide celebrated pop quartet is partly due to the new opportunities in a united Germany.

Rammstein are known the world over for their martial appearances, killer guitar riffs, and provocative lyrics. Founded after the Berlin Wall fell, the band’s musical roots are in the former East Germany. PopXport on Rammstein and reunification.

Paul van Dyk was born in communist East Germany. Shortly before the Berlin Wall fell he and his mother emigrated legally. When the border opened, he returned to the East and started DJing. Reunification marked the start of his global career.
